LEADER-IN-TRAINING (AGES 15-16)

Our Leader-in-Training program is the first step in our two-year leadership program. This 2-week program provides participants with the opportunity for personal growth and to build self-esteem. It focuses on the development of hard and soft skills, camp knowledge and facilitation, as well as communication and leadership skills. Participants will learn the fundamentals of trip planning by preparing and leading their canoe trip as a team, with the help of their leadership counsellors. While at camp, participants have the opportunity to focus on advanced skill development by achieving their ORCA certification.

ADVENTURE TRIP

This 4-day out-trip was designed to offer a challenging option for L.I.T campers to gain experience in canoeing and kayaking, other than the traditional flat-water canoe trips. It is a great opportunity for L.I.T campers to experience the great outdoors, as they learn camping skills, white water kayaking and canoeing skills, and develop leadership skills. All of our trips will be conducted at Palmer Rapids on the Madawaska River and the routes are designed to challenge participants in a fun and safe approach.

COUNSELLOR-IN-TRAINING (AGES 16-17)

Our Counsellor in Training program is the second and final transition stage in the RKY Camp Leadership program. This one month program (experience) focuses mainly on the development of counselling skills, including group dynamics, child development, program planning and facilitation and camper needs. Participants are able to practice their counselling skills under the supervision of experienced camp staff through a number of cabin placements throughout the month. CIT’s will complete a 5 day canoe trip to practice their canoe tripping skills, as well as further their counselling techniques.

C.I.T participants have a responsibility to show strong role modeling, take an active interest in their own development as well as an eagerness to give back to their camping community. That is why entrance to the C.I.T program is by application only.  You can pick up an application at the Kingston Family YMCA, or call the camp office, and we will gladly send you one.
