Leading our staff team as RKY Camp Director is Ryan Underhill. During his 10 years in camping, Ryan has gained extensive experience with leadership and program development. Ryan is dedicated to offering RKY participants a safe, fun and rewarding experience. Under his direction, RKY Camps’ energetic staff are chosen primarily for their knowledge and commitment to providing positive opportunities for children.
With their cabin groups, campers are given the opportunity to make new friends, learn a variety of outdoor skills, practice teamwork and responsibility. At RKY Camp we strive to ensure that every campers experience reflects the YMCA Quality Eight values. Our mandate is to provide a safe and caring environment, where children can develop self-confidence, while having tons of fun!
Our staff team are trained in the principles of healthy child development, role modeling, experiential teaching and the importance of being a friend. The wellness of all campers, is very important to us. In case of an emergency, a volunteer doctor or nurse resides on site each session. In addition, all staff are trained in First Aid and RKY Camp’s emergency procedures.
Our wonderful food service provides us with three nutritious (and delicious) meals and a snack each day, in accordance to the Canadian Food Guide. We accommodate to a variety of dietary needs, including gluten and dairy free diets, as well as vegetarian options. To ensure safety and comfort of all campers and staff, RKY Camp is a nut and shell fish free site.
OUR MISSION
For 80 years, RKY Camp has encouraged young people to grow in mind, body and spirit. Campers, from all backgrounds are placed in cabin groups according to age. We practice sharing, co-operation, teamwork and responsibility.
CAMPER HEALTH AND SAFETY
As a YMCA Camp and accredited member of the Ontario Camping Association, RKY Camp meets or exceeds the stringent safety standards set by both organizations. Our staff are trained to ensure a safe and positive experience for everyone, whether campers are on the waterfront or on the climbing wall. All campers are supervised by staff, 24 hours a day.
While on the water, or on out-trip there are lifeguards. All participants are required to wear a personal floatation device. In case of illness or injury, a volunteer doctor or nurse reside on site each session. If any kind of follow up is necessary, parents will be contacted immediately.
CAMPER CODE OF CONDUCT
We encourage group-building and cabin bonding, and discourage cliques. In addition, the camp director reserves the right to expel from camp – at the parent’s expense – anyone whose behaviour compromises the wellbeing of themselves or others. We take every step to ensure that everyone’s stay at RKY Camp is a successful, safe and enjoyable one. |
